Team Hoyt

2011 off to roaring start

Team Hoyt took the lion’s share of total medals, including an incredible eleven Gold Medals, at the first World Cup outdoor event of 2011, World Cup Stage 1 in Porec, Croatia.

In recurve action, it was a Team Hoyt rout, with the top qualifying score coming from Korean star shooter, Team Hoyt's OH, Jin Hyuk and his Formula recurve.  OH went on to take the mixed team gold, but, it was American archer and Team Hoyt star Brady ELLISON (USA) and his Formula recurve taking the individual gold medal in the finals against another Korean shooter.  Meanwhile, Team Hoyt’s Viktor RUBAN (UKR), the 2008 Olympic Champion, took the men’s individual bronze in a match with Hoyt’s Jake KAMINSKI (USA)- both shooting Hoyt Formula system bows.

In women’s action, Hoyt’s Pia Carmen LIONETTI (ITA) pulled off a stunning victory over the #1 seed from Korea in semifinal action, putting Pia and her Formula in the Gold Medal Final match.

Leading the charge to victory for Team Hoyt was Rodger WILLETT Jr (USA), who took the gold medal in the finals against Hoyt teammate and multiple World Cup champion Jorge JIMINEZ (ESA).  In women’s compound competition it was Team Hoyt’s Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) taking a decisive win from her Russian opponent, Hoyt shooter Viktoriya BALZHANOVA, while Hoyt’s Laura LONGO (ITA) defeated Hoyt’s Diane WATSON (USA) for the bronze.

Team Hoyt shooters are also the dominant frontrunners for the Longines Precision Prize, which this year is for the most accurate compound shooter based on 10 and X count.  Leaders for the prize are Rodger WILLETT Jr, Jorge JIMINEZ, and Roberto HERNANDEZ.  For the women the leaders are Hoyt’s Erika ANSCHUTZ, Diane WATSON, Christie COLIN and Laura LONGO.  The Swiss watchmaker will present the 5000 Swiss Franc prize and a Longines watch worth 3000 francs to the winner at the end of the season.
